Meet Todd Carnes, Candidate for re-election to the Lexington Town Council

Lake Murray Lifestyle asked Todd, “What do we Need to Know” about how you will help Small Businesses.

"My name is Todd Carnes and my family is deeply invested in this community. I have been married to my wife, Kerri, for 32 years and we have raised our three daughters here in Lexington and they are all now productive adults in their 20’s. As a fellow small business owner, what I would want to say to other small business owners is that I understand what it means to pull a business out of the ground. In order to do this, you need to have significant knowledge across a wide variety of disciplines, like HR, marketing, finance, team building, real estate, tax law, etc. Most importantly, you must have real tenacity and perseverance to add to these skills or you will get discouraged and give up during the early days where everything feels so vulnerable. The phrase I use is that you must “will it into existence”. This tenacity generally can’t be taught, it is gained by experience and strengthened by having great friends and mentors around you. It is a steep learning curve and a great challenge, but it is very fulfilling to take on a great challenge and find a measure of success. I have tried to take on these types of challenges throughout my career, from moving to Russia in the 1990’s to do mission work, to planting Radius Church here in the Midlands, to starting my own business, Todd Realty Partners. I have made my share of mistakes along the way, but I am glad I took on the challenges and made great investments in this community, which has in turn invested so much into me and my family. So as a fellow small business owner in an ever changing world, I would say to the other small business owners, I will work to protect your interest in our community and make sure that we keep a level playing field for all in the realm of commerce in the Town of Lexington. Feel free to reach out to me at anytime at votetoddcarnes@gmail.com."
